At the point when the spouses of two of the "suicide" casualties get together to collaborate, they understand there is an abnormal association between their husbands' passings — the two men worked for a mammoth organization called the Kingsley International Group, and the two men were headed to Washington, D.

Something that would cost them, and twelve or so others, their lives. Something many refer to as "Prima. These books have bigger-than-life characters that are still believable.

The storyline in Are You Afraid of the Dark is simplistic and the book just feels as though it has been rushed. I am a Sidney Sheldon fan, so I still found it suspenseful enough to see through to the end.

It just wasn't what I expected. It's really hard to believe this book was written by Sidney Sheldon.

Though he's known for writing popular, commercial fiction, this book was downright pretentious and lame!

It's riddled with too many unnecesary flashbacks and near misses. The plot, characters, situations, everything is just soo lame! Too bad this was the last novel he ever wrote.

Review to follow. Thirty years back, this book would have felt unputdownable. Now, it's an unbearable drag. My humble suggestion: please avoid this inflated work full of two-dimensional stereotypical characters, which is devoid of any real surprise or twist.

You can find much-much better techno-thrillers or suspense-driven thrillers now, dime-a-dozen.

Is it just me or has Sidney Sheldon lost his touch? I read this amazing book 2 years ago. It blew my mind. What else can I say about Sidney Sheldon?

He never fails to mesmerise us. This is a Page Turner indeed. I read this book in one go!!! Dianne and Kelly were just amazing and brave.

Read this book and be mesmerised. One of the biggest surprises Sheldon was after all a playwright and a scriptwriter was the dialogue.

It was almost as if the author had written a first draft of a script and not bothered to revise it. Similarly, the villain of the piece, Tanner Kingsley, is little more than a pantomime villain, a psychopath by degrees smooth and charming then choleric and snarling.

The novel reads like a cartoon series of adventures, think the Hooded Claw trying to finish off Penelope Pitstop using a variety of innovative and creative methods.

It seems like I was listening to a soap opera. Things just didn't seem real or believable. For instance, the two main characters continued to get burned by people after contacting people at KIG.

It seems like after the first couple of times, they would realize that KIG was the common link and find another way make contact.

Second, the women were shot, but didn't die because the killer wanted to have his way wi This is my second book by Sidney Sheldon, and I was a little disappointed in this one.

Second, the women were shot, but didn't die because the killer wanted to have his way with them so he used a special kind of bullet.

And finally it appears that Andrew, came out of a semi vegetative state long enough to do a highly masterful deed, then slipped right back into it.

It seems like Mr. Sheldon just got tired of this story all together when writing it. Of all the authors I have read so far Sidney Sheldon is the one who has never disappointed me.

He always comes up with breathtaking unputdownable suspense. The moment one thinks that this is it, there won't be any more surprises BOOM!!

The ending of his novels are always unpredictable and I simply love them for this very reason There is one thing that caught my attention this time; the title of the novel.

I l Of all the authors I have read so far I love the way he has woven the story around the title and not just given a title according to the story and BTW I just simply love the dark!!

Perhaps it is unfair to judge a writer by his last novel, so I will just say it is boring, predictable, and anachronous.

The characters actually called each other, "darling. I wasn't suprised to discover that the author has been writing for a very long time and is considered to have a "commercial style" of writing.

The two female characters appear shallow and witless, but they still escape from professional assasins time after time.

Go figu Perhaps it is unfair to judge a writer by his last novel, so I will just say it is boring, predictable, and anachronous. Go figure.

I cannot recommend this novel. I found it meh! I went half through and I almost dnfd it. I mean it got silly at that point, so amateur.

Anyways 5 stars to me for finishing it. This was the stupidest novel ever. The main characters kept running away by luck all the time, yet they fucking kept calling the company that was tagging them.

Dont you know that Tanner is probably listening to all of the company calls? This wansnt a book. It was a low level Hollywood script. It took me a long time to finish this shit.

I was in so love with the characters.. I'm no Sheldon neophyte. In high school, I ate these books like candy, and sometimes when I'm stressed, or can't focus on the depth of language in "real" literature I like to return to the fluff of Sidney Sheldon.

Somebody already wrote the perfect review; they stated "this book should have been called 'The Bitches Did It Again,' because that line is used so frequently throughout the novel.

Two widows are on the run, trying to escape the perilous fate of their dead husbands. Episode after epis I'm no Sheldon neophyte. Episode after episode, these women narrowly escape death, while simultaneously trying to solve the mystery of who would want to kill them and why.

This book was an easy read. With four murders in the first 20 pages, it was immediately engaging. It was unintentionally funny; the sheer absurdity of the situations was laughable.

I almost wonder if Sheldon was losing his marbles when he wrote this book? I'm a school teacher. June is a crazy month, and it's hard to focus on a book.

Thanks, Mr. Sheldon RIP , for providing me with escapism at its pulpiest. I wouldn't normally set out to read Sidney Sheldon so I thought I'd give it a try and see what his style was like.

Where do I even start? This book wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Sheldon relied on some well worn tropes.

He made many pathetic attempts to seem sensitive to his characters. However these characters were flat, boring and predictable.

The storyline felt like it was given no more than five minutes thought, like it was written more in a stream of consciousness style rather than planned out.

I really can't say more without going on a tirade that isn't suitable for polite company. Sci fi book about weather phenomenon.

This book was such a disaster, it looked like an amateur writer tried his hand at imitating Sheldon's writing, and failed at it, terribly.

The only reason why I'm giving it 2 stars is because it was a fast paced read. The husbands were dead under mysterious circumstances and these women are hunted down by so I can't believe this book really happened!

The husbands were dead under mysterious circumstances and these women are hunted down by some savage killer.

This book is all about how they escape from the killer, get caught because they try to do something stupid , escape again because the killer is even dumber than them, again get caught, because they are more dumber, escape again because Need I tell more?

This is utter nonsense. What a poorly written plot, what senseless characters. I feel like this whole book is some well played joke on the reader.

What I appreciate about Sidney Sheldon is that his books are always page-turners, the kind that makes you not want to drop the book until you get to the last page.

This is the reason why I was able to finish the each of the books above for only one day. I may not be much of a fan of Sidney Sheldon but I have read a number of his works enough for me to acquire a sense of familiarity as to what his stories are like.

And this is what bothers me the most because Sheldon no longer surprise me at all. Still, when it comes to suspense, Sheldon for me is one master storyteller.

His writing style is simple yet vivid, effortless and fluid. His story plots are always absorbing and intricate and his characters are very complex and intriguing.

Most of time, while reading the book, I always had to remind myself that I am reading Sidney Sheldon and not Dean Koontz.

I have some problems, though, with the way Sheldon peppered the book with quite a number of flashbacks. It somehow added to my confusion especially that there are a lot of names of the characters that I have to remember.

Nonetheless, this is a story pregnant with much suspense and action, and the revelation towards the ending is a strong probability worthy of discussion.

A little spoiler and a detailed review in It's A Wonderful Bookworld You have to make the magic happen. This did not even seem like him though.

It could have been any mass marketed thriller. The book featured one thing I do not like in books.. It was not believable in the slightest and I just could not take it seriously.

Also this book featured such a depraved villain that I found it was to distasteful reading about him and I started skimming his chapters.

This was my least favorite of Sheldon books but thankfully most of his books are a 4 and 5. View all 3 comments.

Aachii Masala.. View 1 comment. Okay, so if this book was Sidney Sheldon at the top of his game, I'm definitely not reading any of his other books because I really didn't like this book.

First of all, it was way to predictable. Even for me, who doesn't read a lot of mystery novels. So if you're one who loves mysteries and reads them day in and day out, save yourself the trouble and don't read this one, because a few chapters into the book, it's no longer a mystery.

Another thing that annoyed me about this book was our two protag Okay, so if this book was Sidney Sheldon at the top of his game, I'm definitely not reading any of his other books because I really didn't like this book.

Another thing that annoyed me about this book was our two protagonists. Of course they're both very young and very beautiful, but on top of that they're incredibly smart and lucky.

I mean, everything seems to actually go right for them when it's supposed to be going wrong. They manage to have a steady flow of cash on them, they can get a plane, helicopter, taxi, whatever, whenever they need it.

And they're very one demensional too. I really don't even want to continue talking about the book because I disliked reading it so much.

In summary, I didn't like the book because of the predictable plot and the shallow, one-demensional characters who really aren't real women at all but just some author's fantasy of what a perfect woman should be.

It's all about the endings, isn't it? Naw, just his career. It's hardly his Deerhunter, an obscure Entourage reference that no one will get, haha.

In stasis, just for the heck of it I reread this because clearly I don't love myself enough but I don't think I have laughed aloud like this in a long while.

I laughed until it wasn't funn It's all about the endings, isn't it? I laughed until it wasn't funny anymore, until it became saddening.

This is acceptable by humanity? When so many others who deserves to be read aren't being read, who ought to be published are not being published, those who should be writing aren't writing , well that one is their own fault.

I must say he had turned telling a story instead of showing one into a fine art form. I thought about it but I just didn't care about the characters.

The outdated technology dispirited me since we can do all the googling on our phones now and that's mean, I know.

But then again like the author of Kramer vs Kramer said books serves as time capsules that we can revisit, that is such a beautiful thought, right?

So if I wanted to get a feel I'll just reread this novel as devoid of substance as it was. To be honest, it wasn't so long ago that I was in and I remember it vividly, we can only hope that our years remember us fondly too.

As brainless as this is, and it is pretty brainless, I can't help but feel that it's ahead of its time filled with dreary fortelling and cold presentiment.

Because nowadays everyone is obsessed with climate change, whether they believe it's happening or they are wrong.

Haha, just kidding I don't enforce my opinions. The point is everybody got something to say about it. Even a bear's victim that was awarded recently.

Oddly enough in another novel on this subject was released ; State of Fear by Michael Crichton. Safe to say that was a better novel, more persuasive too.

Back to this one, the two stars are for Well, who am I to completely shoot down something that brought joy of reading to countless many.

After all I enjoy cotton candy and light kisses too. View 2 comments. The best! Sheldon has done just that and more.. With bickering, paper-thin, highly annoying protagonists and a cast of villains so much like the ones Scooby faced, I wonder whether this was actually sponsored by Hanna-Barbera!

Don't underestimate your wife. Utilizing his typical berserk, page-turning style, Sheldon takes us directly into the story with a progression of passings that are made to look like suicides.
